FY21 BUDGET SUMMARY
The Crewe Town Council will hold a Public Hearing on Monday, May 11, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. at the Crewe Library located at 400 Tyler Street to receive comments on the proposed FY21 budget.
Please note this public hearing will be closed to the public in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, anyone wishing to provide comments on the proposed budget may do so by sending an email to the Town Manager, Brian S. Thrower at bthrower@townofcrewe.com or Town Clerk, Tiffany Sisk at tiffanydumond@townofcrewe.comup to one hour prior to the start of the meeting. Comments may also be mailed to Town Hall, 125 E. Carolina Avenue, Crewe, VA 23930.
Below is a synopsis of the proposed budget for fiscal year July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2021.
The Town is proposing to increase the cigarette tax by $0.23 per pack. The proposed new rate will be $0.50 per pack.

Budget Work Sessions
The Crewe Town Council will hold its Budget Work Session Meetings on the following dates:
Thursday, April 9, 2020 at 6:30 p.m.
Thursday, April 16, 2020 at 6:30 p.m.
Thursday, April 23, 2020 at 6:30 p.m.
Thursday, April 30, 2020 at 6:30 p.m.
Please note these meetings will be closed to the public in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the Town will be providing public access to the meetings via Facebook Live, should citizens wish to participate in the meetings. To access the Facebook Live video visit the Town of Crewe Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/TownOfCrewe/beginning at 6:30 p.m. on April 9, 2020. The purpose of the Town's emerging COVID-19 Relief Plan is to focus on the community's overall well-being. The goal is to connect citizens to the resources they need to heal, to stay informed, and to stay connected.
Pre-registration is no longer required for COVID-19 vaccination through the Virginia Department of Health. If you are age 12 or older and have not yet been fully vaccinated, please visit Vaccinate.Virginia.gov now to find vaccination clinics near you. Many clinics offer walk-in service in addition to appointments.

Through partnership with the Lions Club, the Crewe Police Department has 25 gift cards for individuals and families who have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic (loss of income, underemployment, job loss). Applicants must be 18 years or older, a resident of the Town of Crewe, and attest to financial hardship derived from the pandemic.
Submission of an application does not indicate approval. After applications have been screened the department will notify and hand deliver the gift cards to the selected recipients.

The Virginia Department of Health and the Virginia Department of Emergency Management, in partnership with the Virginia National Guard, will open a Community Vaccination Clinic in Nottoway County.
This event begins on April 19.

Crewe Cares: Virtual Conversation
Join us May 18 at 7:00 pm as we celebrate mental health and work to make our community stronger, safer, and more dynamic. The panel consists of representatives from Virginia Family Services, Virginia Rural Health Association, Service Dogs of VA, and VA C.O.P.E.S.
The goal is to start necessary conversations that provide insight on nutrition, family counseling services, PTSD, and coping resources for uncertain times.

Helping Households Connect During the Pandemic
The Emergency Broadband Benefit Program is a temporary FCC program to help households struggling to afford internet service during the pandemic.
The Federal Communications Commission has launched a temporary program to help families and households struggling to afford Internet service during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Emergency Broadband Benefit provides a discount of up to $50 per month toward broadband service for eligible households and up to $75 per month for households on qualifying Tribal lands. Eligible households can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers.
Eligible households can enroll through a participating broadband provider or directly with the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) using an onlineor mail in application.
